|What can sound do for you?
Vibrational Sound Therapy uses the sound and vibration from singing bowls to soothe the entire nervous system leaving you feeling lighter and potentially happier with reduced stress and tension.
How does it work? Sound has been used by indigenous cultures for centuries to create altered states of consciousness. Though the singing bowl is a relatively new method, the goal remains to entrain the brain creating a lulling or hypnotic effect to induce profound relaxation. This altered state provides a much needed break from normal thought patterning so that we might reharmonize our body, mind, and spirit.
Why is this so important? It is widely known that we can think ourselves into sickness, disharmony, and disease. As chronic stress is listed as America's #1 health problem, using mindful healing practices like this one that induce "the relaxation response", can be a crucial counterbalance for stress, anxiety, and the general disconnectedness of modern society.
What does VST treat? Sound therapy is an excellent complimentary treatment for any condition worsened by stress (which is a long list!). It is also a unique and powerful way to unwind and plug into a deeper sense of self. Here's a few words from my clients:
"I wasn’t really sure what to expect from vibration therapy- basically I’ll try anything once if there’s a chance it will calm my overreactive immune system. My initial observations are that my body feels calmer, more open and my pain level is lower than it’s been in months. But unlike massage therapy, I don’t feel sore or like my body is overwhelmed by sensation. THANK YOU! Most of my days involve pain. I’m just really thankful for your help Kristina."
"All the tension in my body is gone. My head feels less cluttered."
"This helps me manage my life! Just when I start to feel overwhelmed and anxious, I know it's time for another session and it sets me right."
"I've never been able to meditate; this is the first time I feel like my brain gets quiet enough for it to make a real difference."
What happens in a session? Sound therapy is done fully clothed on a massage table with therapeutic grade singing bowls placed on the body. (There are exceptions to this if a person is chair bound or there is a need/preference for the bowls to be placed around the body vs. on the body). Treatments last either 30 min or 1 hour. Please consult your doctor if there is any doubt about vibrational sound therapy being right for you.
